Words From Home...

It is hard to believe that school has started again. Thank you so much for contributing to the Back-to-School campaign. Our children will have all the supplies they need this year because of your generous support.

Fall is such a great time at the Children’s Home. The children enjoy playing outside, riding their bikes on campus, going to football games, and more. It is also exciting because our churches provide all the food our children need through the Fall Food Roundup. Thank you for meeting those needs.

This is also the time when our staff presents the Annual Children’s Home Report to the Churches at their associational meetings. Hopefully, we will see many of you then. Let me give you a preview of that report. This past year you provided love, care, and hope for over 8,000 children, families, and others. Many of those precious people experienced the joy of salvation in Christ.

Through our residential child and family care ministries we served 127 children and 27 homeless mothers. An additional 194 families received placement referral services.

Our Granberry Counseling centers provided services for 914 clients through 12 offices around the state. Our Minister Care Counseling Program provided 36 Louisiana Baptist minister families with counseling services which were paid through a partnership with the Pastoral Leadership division of the Louisiana Baptist Convention.

Our Women’s Learning Center (formally Christian Women’s Job Corps) provided 34 women with educational and job skills training. An additional 126 women were provided with support services. Additional certifications including Paraprofessional Education and Banking Services were added to the curriculum.

Our Compassion for Kids ministry served over 2,000 economically challenged children and families in northeast Louisiana by providing life essentials such as household items, coats, shoes, and more. All Compassion for Kids projects are conducted through partnerships with local Baptist churches and ministries.

Finally, our international ministry, Orphans Embrace, served 22 children at the Children’s Village in Croix des Bouquets, Haiti. The children are doing well in the midst of challenging times. We also served over 5,000 additional children by providing shoes through our various ministry partners. Please continue to pray for our work in Haiti.

I can’t leave you without telling you about *Beth. Her story is much like the rest of our children. She could not continue to live with her family. She had little or no church involvement before coming to the Home. Beth is a very smart and inquisitive girl. As she attended church and saw the living faith of those on our staff, Beth was drawn to learning more about Jesus. Through discussions with her cottage parents and others, she realized her need for Christ and accepted Him as her Savior and Lord. Thank you for being an important part of Beth’s decision.
